Modern Product Design (ME 611) is a graduate design class at Oregon State University. In this class, teams develop and manufacture a product for the WVRC (Willamette Valley Rehabilitation Center) in Lebanon OR. Each team is assigned a design problem chosen by WVRC. Our team was given the problem of redesigning the bingo machine that WVRC uses for bingo night. They wanted a setup that was more interesting and stimulating than the current setup. The project was quite difficult for two reasons: first, the design required meeting intangible, aesthetic benchmarks. Second, the clients we designed for had severe cognitive disabilities which made interviews and needs gathering extremely difficult. For the duration of the project, I acted as team leader and managed the manufacture of the deliverable. I was also the CAD modeler for the entirety of the project. Despite some major setbacks that nearly sunk the project, I led the team to complete the project. A report on the project and the device that resulted can be found below.
